What is Soy Wax?

Our candles are made using 100% natural soy wax.

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from soybean oil. The soy beans are harvested, cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and then rolled into flakes. Once in flake form the oil can be extracted and hydrogenated.

During the hydrogenation process some of the fatty acids in the oil are converted from unsaturated to saturated. In doing this, the melting point of the oil is significantly altered meaning it is solid at room temperature.

Why did we use Soy Wax?

Recover aims to be as sustainable as possible in sourcing all our materials. Soy wax is eco-friendly, renewable, sustainable and carbon neutral. It can quickly be grown and while global oil reserves shrink and paraffin prices increase the only limitation on soy wax is how much our suppliers choose to grow. Any excess bean husks can also be used as animal feed ensuring as little waste as possible.
